What do our Mission, Vision, and Values mean to us?

Our mission, vision, and core values help guide our decision making processes and show others what truly matters to us as a company. They are as follows:

Mission

  • To improve the mental health of the community by providing judgment-free household help.

Vision

  • A world where everyone feels like they belong in their own home.

Values

  • Empathy as a way of life.

  • Strive for Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion.

  • Rest is a human right.

  • Practice integrity in all things.

  • People above profit.

Let's break down each of these in more detail to explain what they mean to us.

Mission

Our mission is to improve the mental health of the community by providing judgment-free household help. We truly believe that our homes are physical manifestations of what is happening inside our minds. As life gets more stressed out and chaotic, so does our environment. The part that really stinks is that as our environment gets more chaotic and stress-inducing, our mental health starts to decline. So it is a vicious pattern that only goes down hill unless you can disrupt the cycle and make a conscious change.

That’s where we come in. We help people lift themselves up out of their mess and take control of their home again. We empower our clients to be in charge of their stuff - not the other way around.

Vision

Our vision is a world where everyone feels like they belong in their own home. Because for so many people, walking in the front door induces feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, shame, and makes them question their worthiness. Our homes should be sanctuaries for us. When we come through the door after being away for an errand, a work day, or even a weekend trip, we should be able to let out that long exhale that says “Yes, I am home. I feel grounded. I can relax and all's right with the world. This is my space and I belong here.”

Values

Empathy as a way of life

means that in all situations, we put ourselves in the other person’s shoes before jumping to conclusions. We imagine what makes them tick, what causes them to be in certain situations or make certain decisions. Empathy means I am not above or below you, we are on the same level and I can understand your struggle.

Strive for Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion

means that all people, regardless of race, skin color, sexual orientation, religion, sex, gender, relationship status, national origin, age, ability level, parenthood, mental health status, tax bracket, etc, deserve to not only receive help with their homes (at a price they can afford) so they can be fulfilled by our mission, but they also deserve to be employed by a company that values them as whole human beings like we do here at Home Harmony. Our marketing practices and recruiting methods make sure that folx in marginalized communities have access to the same opportunities as everyone else.

Rest is a human right

means exactly that. There is no qualifier for who deserves to rest. There is no “once I complete X task(s) I can rest.” or “I need to work 6 days a week in order to feel worthy of rest on the 7th day.” Our clients need to know that it is okay to prioritize rest over doing the dishes, and Home Harmony employees need to know that it is okay to prioritize rest over productivity/saying “yes” to everything. I rest. I want you to as well.

Practice integrity

means being honest, of course. But for me, honesty is so much more than just saying the truth, not stealing, etc. Living in integrity means honoring your boundaries and the boundaries of others. Show up as your full, authentic self to be in integrity with your spirit. When something doesn’t feel right, speak up. Advocate for yourself and others. Be accountable for your actions and express gratitude often.

People above profit

means that I have no interest in turning Home Harmony into a machine that creates a mountain of money called “profit” that I sit on top of in my golden throne. Human connection is so much more important than any dollar amount could ever be. Yes, we need to be profitable in order to stay open and continue helping others for years to come. We do not need to do that at the expense of our humanity. Charitable giving is extremely important to me and to our mission, as is making sure I take excellent care of you all - my employees that I am so incredibly grateful for! As our stock pile of cash continues to grow, so will the variety of services and resources that we can offer to the community. It will always be fed back into the community and into your pockets.

Accountability

If you ever have concerns or feel like we are not living in alignment with our mission, vision, and values, I ask that you speak up (in kindness and empathy). I welcome oppositional thinking and encourage you to always speak your mind when you don’t agree with how a thing is being done. I truly believe that with clear, kind communication we can work through any problem.
